ProteinGap Privacy Policy
ProteinGap is free to use, with an optional one-time Full Access in-app purchase. There is no subscription, no account, and no advertising.
Data We Handle and Where It Is Stored
ProteinGap does not send your data to servers operated by the developer, and the developer does not receive it. The app has no network code of its own.
Your food log (food names, protein grams, dates), saved presets and custom foods, and your settings are stored on your device. A summary used by the Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets (such as protein logged today and your goal) is shared between the app and its widget using Apple's App Group storage on the same device.
iCloud Sync
iCloud sync is on by default and can be turned off in Settings. When it is on, your food log and presets are synced through your own private iCloud (CloudKit) database using your Apple ID, so they appear on your other devices. This data is stored and managed by Apple and is not accessible to the developer.
Apple Health
If you allow it, ProteinGap writes the protein you log to Apple Health as dietary protein, and asks for permission to read your body weight (used to calculate your protein goal) and dietary protein. The app currently uses only your body weight. You can deny or revoke these permissions in Apple Health or Settings at any time. Health data is managed by Apple Health and is never sent to the developer or used for advertising, marketing, or analytics.
Photos, Camera, and Meal Estimates
When you estimate a meal from a photo you choose, the image is analyzed on your device using Apple's Vision framework. When you describe a meal in words, the text is read using the app's built-in food list and, on supported devices, Apple Intelligence on-device models. The photo and text are not uploaded by ProteinGap and the photo is not saved by the app.
The camera is used only if you choose to scan a barcode, to find foods you saved. Camera images are processed on your device and are not stored.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, ProteinGap schedules a local notification on your device. No push server is involved.
Purchases
The optional Full Access purchase is processed by Apple through StoreKit. The developer does not receive your payment information.
What We Do Not Collect
ProteinGap does not collect personal data, does not track you, does not use advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not contain third-party SDKs.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete today's entries, and your presets and custom foods, inside the app. Deleting the app removes the data the app stores on your device (not copies you exported or shared, such as a CSV saved elsewhere). Data synced to iCloud can be removed in Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage. Protein written to Apple Health can be deleted in the Health app. You can export your log as CSV from Settings; the file is handed to the app or location you choose in the share sheet.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here.
