StitchStep Privacy Policy

StitchStep is free to download, with an optional one-time Full Access in-app purchase. There is no subscription, and the app shows no ads.

Data Collection

StitchStep does not collect or receive personal data on servers operated by the developer, and it has no developer account system.

Your projects, row counts, patterns, imported PDFs and annotations, and yarn and tool stash are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, this data is synced between your devices through your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit). It is managed by Apple under your iCloud settings and is not accessible to the developer.

A summary of your current row counter is shared only between the StitchStep app, its widget, Lock Screen Live Activity, and Apple Watch app, using Apple's App Group storage and WatchConnectivity.

Microphone and Speech Recognition

If you turn on hands-free counting, StitchStep uses the microphone and Apple's Speech framework to recognize the words "next" and "back" and change the row count. Audio is processed only while the feature is active and is not recorded or stored by the app. When your device supports it, recognition runs on the device. Otherwise, Apple's speech recognition service may process the audio under Apple's privacy policy. You can deny or revoke these permissions in iOS Settings at any time.

Apple Intelligence

On supported devices, the pattern import and Assistant features use Apple's on-device language model. The text you enter or import is processed on your device and is not sent to the developer.

Files, Notifications, and Purchases

StitchStep reads a PDF only when you choose one with the iOS file picker. It does not access your photo library or camera. Notifications and the Lock Screen counter are used only to show your row counter and the row reminder notes you wrote. To do this, the project name, row count, and reminder notes of the project you started on the Lock Screen are also copied to storage shared between the app, its widget, and Apple Watch on your device.

Purchases and restoring them are handled by Apple through StoreKit. The developer does not receive your payment information.

Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking

StitchStep contains no advertising, analytics, or other third-party SDKs, and does not track you across apps or websites.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete projects, patterns, and stash items inside the app. Deleting a project does not currently remove the copy described above (project name, row count, and reminder notes) that the Lock Screen counter and widget use; it stays on your device until you start the Lock Screen counter for another project or delete the app. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device. Data synced to iCloud can be removed in iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > StitchStep.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here.
