ExifWipe Privacy Policy
ExifWipe is a photo metadata removal tool. This policy applies to ExifWipe, both the free daily allowance and the one-time purchase.
Data Collection
ExifWipe does not collect your personal data, and the developer receives no photos, metadata, or usage data. ExifWipe has no account system and no servers of its own.
Photos and their metadata are processed on your device. Network activity happens only in the cases below, and in each case it is performed by Apple’s system services or by a destination you choose yourself:
- Maps: see Maps below.
- iCloud Photos: when you pick an original that is not stored on your device, ExifWipe asks the Photos framework to download it from iCloud. If iCloud Photos is turned on, photos that ExifWipe saves to your library are synced by iCloud under your Apple account and Apple’s terms.
- Sharing and copying: the share sheet and the clipboard are available only when you tap them. Whatever you share goes to the app or service you choose in the share sheet, and copied metadata goes to the system clipboard where other apps can read it. A shared photo keeps most metadata that your wipe settings do not remove (for example copyright and author are kept by default). One exception: removing camera information also removes the photo's whole TIFF block, which includes author, copyright, and date fields stored there, even if you did not choose to remove those.
- Files: when you import from Files and the file is stored in iCloud Drive or with another file provider, that provider (not ExifWipe) may download the file over the network before ExifWipe reads it, under its own terms.
- Purchases: handled by the App Store through StoreKit.
Your wipe settings, the free daily usage count, and review-prompt history are stored in the app’s on-device settings storage (UserDefaults), which is included in your device backups.
Third-Party Services
ExifWipe does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Photos & Media
ExifWipe asks for read and write access to your photo library. It uses this access to read your photos and videos and their metadata, to save the cleaned copies or your metadata edits as new items in your library, and, only if you turn on that setting, to delete the original after saving. ExifWipe never changes an original photo unless you use that delete setting. Processing happens on-device, and ExifWipe itself never uploads image files or their metadata; see Data Collection above for the system and share-sheet cases.
Maps
When you open the map view or a photo’s location, ExifWipe shows Apple Maps (MapKit) centered on the photo’s GPS coordinates. Apple’s Maps service downloads map tiles for the displayed area, so the visible map region may be sent to Apple under Apple’s Maps privacy terms. ExifWipe itself does not send photos or metadata to the developer. Purchases are handled by the App Store through StoreKit.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here.
